about

The EP New Life was originally released in 1996 on the Amsterdam Quote Records (Absolut Records family) as a limited edition issue. Under the Zero Origin moniker, used for releases on labels such as Wally World, Nathanael looked at the notion of 'new life' when producing this EP. But also in reference to a Depeche Mode hit song with its typical new wavey / electro / pop-ish 80s feel to it. As this style in particular is absolutely not recognized in any of the tracks on this EP, the link with the title is conveniently kept.

Moving on to the 20s the New Life EP has been dusted off, reinterpreted, and of course remastered. In this period with the pandemic raging on, diversity and inclusivity at stake, craziness in politics and a degrading environment, it might indeed be time for a New Life. With that in mind, the “2021 Wrapped Mix” was produced as a re-issue add-on. Hoping to radiate some positive vibes and obviously add to the original EP as issued.

Alongside the original and the remix, you will find an additional remix produced by Eric Cycle, of the well-known and foremost respected early 90s house formation Quazar. Eric delivered a rough trancey break beat filled mix, which starts and almost never ends, a banger!

A vinyl repress of New Life is under consideration. All tracks are re-mastered, while trying to keep the original dynamics in place.

Enjoy this release. Keep an eye on the upcoming Upcult stuff with new, unreleased, and reissued work.

about

Upcult Amsterdam, Netherlands

Upcult Records started in 1992. 3 issues were released after which the label paused or 26 years. Next to releasing tunes via Upcult a range of releases saw the light of day on labels such as Plink Plonk, Electron Industries, 100% Pure, Urban Sound of Amsterdam and Absolut Records. Getting back into the game, Nate is working on new stuff, (re-)issues of old and unreleased material.
